Ventral extradural spinal meningeal cyst causing cord compression: neurosurgical treatment.

Spinal extradural meningeal cysts are typically formed by a thin fibrotic membranous capsule, macroscopically similar that of an arachnoid membrane, filled by cerebro spinal fluid and related to a nerve root or to the posterior midline. Ventral location is extremely rare and when it occurs they usually cause spinal cord herniation through the ventral dural gap. A 61 year-old man who began with ...

Symptomatic foraminal extradural meningeal cyst.

The authors described the case of a 39-year-old man with Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome, who had an extradural meningeal cyst expanding into intervertebral foramen of lumbar 2 and 3 vertebrae. The patient suffered from low back pain radiating to the left lower extremity. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a huge extradural meningeal cyst growing through intervertebral foramen far laterally. A wide...

Spinal Extradural Meningeal Cyst: Incorrect Radiographic and Clinical Diagnosis Spinal Ekstradural Meningeal Kist: Hatalı Radyografik ve Klinik Tanı

Extradural meningeal cysts are rare lesions and are uncommon causes of spinal cord or nerve compression. Most of these lesions probably remain unrecognized life-long, because they cause no symptoms. With the widespread use of new imaging techniques, asymptomatic spinal extradural meningeal cysts are becoming increasingly common. The therapeutic guidelines have not been well-established yet. Gen...

Spinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst

A spinal extradural arachnoid cyst (SEAC), which is mostly found at the thoracic spine, is a rare disease, accounting for approximately 1% to 3% of spinal tumors. SEAC patients are generally men in their 20’s, 30’s, or 50’s. SEACs are most commonly found in the middle or lower thoracic spine, and less frequently found in the lumbar region, although they can be detected at any lesion of the spin...

Spinal Extradural Arachnoid Cyst

A 48-year-old male presented with progressive leg weakness. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography myelography showed an extradural arachnoid cyst extending from the T-12 to L-2 levels in the thoracolumbar region. The cyst was confirmed at surgery and completely removed. This surgical intervention achieved improvement in the neurological symptoms.
